CPI(M) holds dharna before Bishop's House

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, NOV. 23. The CPI(M) activists today sat on dharna before the Marygiri Bishop's House at Thiruvalla, in protest against the dismissal of seven staff from the Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital some months back.

The police removed the protestors and took 18 persons to custody on the charge of obstructing the entrance of the Bishop's House.

Later, a group of CPI(M) activists, led by the district secretary, K. Ananthagopan, marched to the Thiruvalla Police Station, demanding the release of those in custody.

Mr. Ananthagopan staged a sit-in in front of the police station, demanding that they be released immediately. The District Superintendent of Police, T. Chandran, rushed to the spot and they were released following talks between the CPI(M) district leadership and the police officials.

The CPI(M) activists reassembled before the Bishop's House and Mr. Ananthagopan addressed the gathering, later.
