KOZHIKODE, NOV. 23. The BJP State general secretary, K. Raman Pillai, today said the Industries Minister, P. K. Kunhalikutty, and persons close to him were behind the reports of rift within the State BJP. The BJP campaign against the Minister, who was embroiled in the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex scandal, was sure of success as the Opposition LDF campaign had lost its steam due to their lack of credibility on the issue. BJP's preliminary enquiry revealed that the Minister and those close to him were doing this to deviate attention of the BJP activists and public from the campaign against the Minister, he said. Describing the new accusations by Ms. Rejina, a key witness and victim of the sex scandal, against the Minister and subsequent developments as "unparallel'' in the State's history, he said the continuation of Mr. Kunhalikutty in the Cabinet cannot be tolerated by any Keralite having self-esteem. Now that chances of Mr. Kunhalikutty resigning on his own appear remote, the only solution before the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, was to throw him out of the Cabinet. He reiterated the demand for a CBI investigation into the sex scandal. He said the allegations that he had not shown the accounts of election campaign of O. Rajagopal, a former Union Minister, in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency were raised by "cowards'' and if they had any doubts, let them come to the fore instead of hiding behind. He said that the issue of petrol pump scandal in which some State BJP leaders were allegedly involved and removal of the State BJP president never came up at the recently held BJP State leadership meet. He said neither he nor his party had recommended for sanctioning petrol pump to his son-in-law. He said wonders may happen when the rally as part of the party's campaign against Mr. Kunhalikutty led by Mr. Rajagopal from Manjeswaram reaches Thiruvananthapuram.
