Togadia wants case shifted out of Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
NOV. 23.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Pravin Togadia, today demanded that the case against the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, be shifted out of Tamil Nadu, preferably to Gujarat "where there can be a fair trial.'' He said certain questions had arisen about the impartiality of the State after the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, made a statement that there was strong evidence against the Acharya.
Dr. Togadia wondered why the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, had maintained "silence" on the issue by saying it was sub-judice. Did she maintain a similar silence in the Bilkis Bano case, he asked.
Dr. Togadia said that if the Sankaracharya was not released from jail within a week "sants" would announce a countrywide agitation.
