LUCKNOW, NOV. 23. The U.P. government has decided to speed up development of infrastructure and land reforms in the naxal-affected areas of Sonebhadra district under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister's secretariat in the wake of the recent naxalite attack in the State which claimed 20 lives. The Principal Secretary (Home), Alok Sinha, said here today that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's Special Secretary Chandrama Prasad would monitor and coordinate the integrated developmental schemes in the naxalite-affected villages in the district. The government decision comes in the wake of the recent killing of 20 security personnel, including jawans of police and PAC, in naxalite attacks in Chandauli district. Mr. Sinha said some areas of Chandauli, Sonebhadra and Mirzapur were naxal affected and an earlier action plan to strengthen and modernise the police force in Sonebhadra would be strictly implemented. Infrastructural facilities, including roads, power, irrigation, education, housing, health and drinking water, needs to be improved in these areas for their alround development, he said. Mr. Sinha said that social and economic factors would also have to be kept in mind besides strengthening the police force in these areas and added that land reforms would be taken up on priority basis. Besides various employment oriented schemes being run by the Centre and the state would also be effectively implemented in the 366 naxal-affected villages in Sonebhadra. PTI
