CHENNAI, NOV. 23. Rosewood and walnut wood furniture from Karnataka and Srinagar, ornately carved stools, tea table chessboards, room dividers, armoires, cabinets, writing desks, sofas and dining room sets. A veritable cornucopia awaits woodcrafts lovers at the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Artisans Welfare Association, Srushti's, fair till December 6 at Chamiers Road, Alwarpet. The organisers say that a Rs. 1.5-lakh six-seater rosewood sofa is the piece de resistance of the fair. Coming a close second, in terms of size and price is a rosewood bed with an elaborately done up headboard, worth Rs. 75,000. A wooden Ganesha priced at Rs. 60,000 gets admiring glances from visitors. Though "wood" is the focus of this fair, the entrance is packed with handicrafts, paintings, bronze carvings and jewellery. Film producer A.V.M. Saravanan inaugurated the fair, which is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The fair offers a discount of 10 per cent.
