KOLLAM, NOV. 23. The Opposition will not allow the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, to enter the Assembly during next month's session if he fails to resign by then, the RSP leader and Eravipuram MLA, A.A. Aziz, has said. He was addressing presspersons here today in connection with a district-level vehicle campaign to be launched by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) tomorrow, demanding Mr. Kunhalikutty's resignation. The LDF district convener, K.R. Chandramohan, said A. Vijayaraghavan, MP, will inaugurate the campaign at Chadayamangalam . Mr. Chandramohan said the demand for resignation comes in the wake of the disclosure made by the prime witness in the ice-cream sex scandal.
Chandy's stance
Mr. Chandramohan said the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, is not only adopting a stand against Mr. Kunhalikutty's resignation, but also going out of the way to protect the Minister. As to whether the LDF will be so vociferous on about taking action against top politicians allegedly involved in the Kiliroor case, Mr. Chandramohan said a strong demand will be made for that at the appropriate time. The LDF leaders parried questions on the allegation made by the CPI leader, Meenakshi Thampan, against the previous LDF Government in connection with action against Mr. Kunhalikutty. The CPI(M) district secretary, K. Rajagopal, said the issue is now focussed on Mr. Kunhalikutty because he is a Minister. A Minister allegedly facing charges of sexual assault on a minor should not be allowed to continue. The Chief Minister had moral responsibility to make Mr. Kunhalikutty resign, he said.
