KOLLAM, NOV. 23. The Kollam East Police today arrested three persons on charges of cheating people by promising them jobs in the Indian Navy. The Circle Inspector Raj Kumar said the three were arrested from a lodge here this evening. He said two of them are brothers. Their identities were given as Santosh, 31, and Vigneshwar, 34, natives of Thrikadavur in Kollam. The other person was identified as Muraleedharan (38). Their modus operandi was to approach youngsters and convince them of jobs in the Navy. One of them introduces himself to the victim as a `marshal' in the Navy. The youngsters are taken to a lodge at Ernakulam, shown the Naval Base and also Navy uniforms. The deal is that Rs. 20,000 has to be paid in advance and Rs. 50,000 after getting the appointment order. Most of the youngsters easily fall for the deal. For getting themselves prepared for the Navy, some of them had started attending fitness centres and gone for close haircut, as suggested by the trio. Some of the victims of the racket were present at the police station. Mr. Raj Kumar said the arrests were made following a tip-off. On the money earned through cheating, the trio led a lavish life. The Additional Sub-inspectors Sugathan and Ismail Kutty assisted Mr. Raj Kumar in carrying out the arrests. The arrested will be produced before a court here tomorrow.
