Governor visits Puttaparthi

PUTTAPARTHI: The Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, made a brief visit to the spiritual town on Tuesday to seek the blessings of Sathya Saibaba on the occasion of the latter's 79th birthday celebration. He was accompanied by his wife, Ujjwala Shinde.

On his arrival at the airport at 1.45 p.m. the Governor was received by the district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, the Superintendent of Police, R.S. Praveen Kumar, the DIG of police, N. Jayaram Reddy, the Joint Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, the Chairman of Sri Sathya Sai Urban Development Authority, Kota Satyanarayana, the in-charge ZP Chairperson, C. Obi Reddy, among others.

From the airport the Governor drove straight to Prashanti Nilayam and had darshan of Sathya Saibaba. After taking the blessings of Saibaba, the Governor made a brief halt in the guesthouse and left for Hyderabad.

BJP calls for bandh success

WARANGAL: The BJP State unit president, N. Indrasena Reddy, has urged traders, employees' associations and the general public to take part in the proposed state bandh on November 30.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy alleged that the Congress failed to fulfil the promises made during elections and its decisions only resulted in more deaths of farmers. He said genuine farmers and weavers were being denied of the compensation promised by the Government on the pretext that they do not fit in the guidelines issued for the purpose.

White paper on farm loans demanded

NALGONDA: The BJP general secretary, K. Laxman, has asked the Government to release a white paper on the loans given to farmers for the kharif season.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, failed to ensure crop loans to the farming community as promised. He criticised the Government for blaming the Telugu Desam for farmers' suicide.

He remarked that the moratorium announced by the Government had turned out to be a deathblow to farmers.

Digvijay for Anantapur today

ANANTAPUR: The AICC general secretary in charge of party affairs of the State and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, and the APCC president, K. Keshava Rao, are arriving here on Wednesday on a day's visit to the district.

According to the DCC functionaries, they will attend a party workers' meeting at Lalithakala Parishad hall and will meet party functionaries at the DCC office later.

Official held on molestation charge

HYDERABAD: An Assistant Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, A. Venugopal, 40, working in Ranga Reddy district, was arrested on Tuesday on the charge of outraging the modesty of his subordinate. He was remanded to judicial custody when produced before the Chevella court.

The victim, a veterinary doctor working at Pudur near Chevella, alleged in her complaint that he called her up on August 21 and directed to meet him at the Ranga Reddy district Collectorate along with some files.

When she went there the next day, the official allegedly took her to Gandipet saying he had official work there. After reaching an isolated place, he reportedly outraged her modesty, the police said.

TDP leaders denied

permission to visit prison

WARANGAL: A group of TDP leaders, who went to visit the central prison, have to face bitter experience on Tuesday. The jail authorities refused to allow them.

Party MLAs - E. Dayakar Rao and V. Narender Reddy -- accompanied by the former MLA, Revuri Prakash Reddy, and the former MP, B. Venkateswarlu, went to the jail to take stock of the situation following suicide attempt by three prisoners recently. However, the jail authorities said they would allow only pubic representatives -- MLAs and not others. They also refused to allow media persons accompanying them.

Student ends life

Kakinada: A student, Karri Naga Ramakrishna (17), allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling of a shed behind the Zilla Parishad boys high school at Gollaprolu on Monday.

According to the police, the boy resorted to the extreme step as his mother chided him for misusing Rs. 500 meant for payment of fee.

Project site office seized

Srikakulam: The site office of the SKANSKA, which has been executing the golden quadrilateral works of NH-5 between Palasa and Itchapuram in Srikakulam district, was seized by the MRO of Kanchili on Monday. The project site office with diesel pump set and stone crusher was located in Jalantarakota in Kanchili mandal.

The seizure was affected as the company had not obtained the required permission. According to reports reaching here, the MRO had already lodged a complaint with the police and was sending detailed reports to the Collector and other officials.

Senior officers of the company, including the general manager of the project, Subrahmanyam, held a meeting to discuss the issue.

Four fake naxals held

KARIMNAGAR: The Sircilla sub-division police arrested four pseudo-naxalites and recovered a country made gun and stolen cash of Rs. 68,000 and a cell phone from their possession on Tuesday.

Disclosing this to newsmen at Sircilla, the DSP, Venkateshwara Rao, said the accused -- Sunkati Srinivas (24) of Garjanapalli village, Sircilla Kishan (35) of Sarampalli, Lingampalli Butchaiah (25) of Chintalatana and Gajula Mahesh (23) of Sircilla had formed into a group.

On November 19, they waylaid Gajula Ganesh, a businessman, who was returning from Hyderabad, and took away Rs. 75,000 in cash and his cell phone from him.

SBI staff threaten stir

HYDERABAD: Employees and officers of State Bank of India have threatened to go on a two-day strike on December 6 and 7. The SBI Staff Federation and the Officers' Federation have already served strike notices on the management pressing it to settle several long pending issues.

Meanwhile, as part of the second phase of the ongoing agitation, members of the federations staged lunch-hour demonstrations at the local head office on Tuesday.

Two farmers commit suicide

Sangareddy: Unable to repay the mounting debts, a farmer, Gangula Ramesh (22), committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree at Chittapur of Mirdoddi mandal of Medajk district on Tuesday. His father Ellayya found his body in the afternoon.

In Nalgonda district a cotton farmer, K. Sreenivasa Reddy of Nellikallu committed suicide on Tuesday due to financial problems.

Lowest night temperature

remains at 12 degree C

Hyderabad: The State's lowest night temperature remained at 12 degree Celsius on Wednesday also. Adilabad and Medak maintained it for the day.

Weather was dry in the State with the minimum temperature changing a little. According to a Met office forecast, mainly sunny weather will prevail in the State on Thursday.

Rs. 4 lakhs for pipeline works

NELLORE: The ZP chairman, P. Chenchal Babu, has said Rs. 4 lakhs has been sanctioned for pipeline works pertaining to Yadavapalem water scheme of Udayagiri mandal. According to the chairman, 25 drinking water bores have also been sanctioned in Seetaramapuram, Vinjamoor, Varikuntapadu, Marripadu and Udayagiri mandals, under the `Swajaladhara' scheme.

NELLORE: The district administration has handed over cheques for Rs. 1,00,050 to dependants of five handloom workers, under the insurance scheme for weavers. At a function held here on Tuesday, the Joint Collector, N. Sridhar, handed over the amounts to members of the families.

New bus service

NELLORE: A high-tech bus service from Kavali to Kukatpalli of Hyderabad has been introduced by the RTC. It leaves Kavali at 9 p.m. and reaches Kukatpalli via Hyderabad around 7-15 a.m.

Ryots stage

dharna

NELLORE: Enraged by the erratic power supply, farmers of Dagadarthi, staged a dharna in front of the sub-station on Monday. The farmers belonging to Narayanapuram and Damaravaram villages alleged that they were not getting continuous supply of power for eight hours. The dharna went on for more than 3 hours.

Action sought

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association has demanded immediate action against the persons responsible for the "brutal assault" on Nagaraju, orthopaedic surgeon, Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati.

M. Chandra Sekhar Reddy, secretary-general, in a statement issued here condemned the assault on Dr. Nagaraju, who is also an assistant professor at S.V.R.R.Hospital, without giving details of the incident or when it occurred.

Children's Assembly

TIRUPATI: E.S.Raghav Chakravarthy, K.Yasaswini and P.D.Chaitanya, studying in Sudhaha Little Citizens high school of Tirupati took part in the International Children's Assembly and integration camp held at National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi, from November 14 to 20 on the theme "Children's dreams and aspirations''.

They also took part in the painting event conducted by the Bhavan in association with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Jaycees' panel

TIRUPATI: The new panel of Tirupati Jaycees was installed at a brief ceremony on Monday evening in the presence of Prasanth Kumar Patro, president of Indian Jaycees zone IV.

The new members are E.Bhaktavatsalam Naidu (president), R.Chennakesavan (secretary) and V.Chalapathi (treasurer).
