KARIMNAGAR, NOV. 23. Five revolutionary trade unions of Singareni Collieries Company limited (SSCL) have called for a one-day token strike in all mines, including open cast and underground mines of the Singareni, on Wednesday demanding the implementation of seventh wage board for employees. The trade unions, including CPI (Maoists) group, affiliated to Sikasa (Singareni Karmika Samakya), the IFTU affiliated, Godavari Loya Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham and Godavari Loya Boggu Ghani Karimka Union, the Singareni Ghani Karmika Sangham and AIFTU unions, have called for the strike. The Telangana Boggu Ghani Karimka Sangham, affiliated to the TRS, and the HMS trade unions have decided to support the strike. While the TNTUC, affiliated to the TDP, has decided to participate in the token strike separately, the INTUC, CITU and AITUC have decided to abstain from the strike. The Singareni management officials have appealed to employees not to participate in the strike which is illegal as the trade unions, which served strike notice, are not recognised trade unions. The strike will cause a loss of Rs. 4 crores wages to the employees and coal production worth Rs. 11 crores in the entire Singareni collieries. Meanwhile, the police have made elaborate bandobust to avoid any untoward incident during the strike.
