NEW DELHI, NOV. 23. Calling for continuous construction and reconstruction of a negotiated and shared national curriculum in an interlocking network of local, regional and national forum, a two-day conference organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) today identified AIDS/Adolescence education, consumer education, IT and environment as some of the front line curriculum to be focused on. The two-day conference -- that concluded today -- of Directors of State Councils of Educational Research and Training, State Institutes of Education and State Institutes of Educational Technology while describing the need to reduce school bag load as critical, also delved into the role of states in development of decentralised curriculum/syllabus under the National Curriculum Framework. While accepting that goals of `capacity building' need to be reached by defining the areas of research, training and development, the participants also felt that text books need to be competency based.
