Award for NTPC

NEW DELHI NOV. 23. The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has won the prestigious ISTD-FICCI Award for Excellence in HR practices. The award was presented by the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to the Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, C.P. Jain, and Director (Human Resources), K.K. Sinha, during the 33rd IFTDO World Conference & Exhibition here.

The award has been conferred on NTPC for its "innovative HR imperatives such as competency, commitment, culture and systems-building".

Inter-college festival held

NEW DELHI NOV. 23. The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) held its annual inter-college festival, "Amaze 2004'', on its campus in the Qutab Institutional Area here this past week-end. Students from management institutes like Fore School, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and various colleges of Delhi University participated in the event.

On the inaugural day, a creative writing and choreography competition besides Mr. and Ms Amaze -- a personality contest -- were held. The second day saw events like collage making, face painting and corporate quiz. The festival was wrapped up by the rock group Euphoria which entertained the audience with a variety of popular numbers.

New Principal for UCMS

NEW DELHI NOV. 23. Prof. Sunder Ayyagari has taken over as Principal of the University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi. A Radiation Oncologist, he has had wide experience at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, and the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, over the past 35 years.

He served as the Dean of SGPGIMS for three years before taking voluntary retirement on December 31, 2003.

In his new role now he hopes to "create a brand name for UCMS".

Green ambassadors

NEW DELHI NOV. 23 . In an attempt to create awareness about the environment and heritage, Bhatnagar International School at Vasant Kunj here recently inducted 30 students from classes IX to XI into its "Green Force and Heritage Ambassadors'' club. The ambassadors informed other students about the hazards of crackers and the meaning and importance of the "Gayatri Mantra''. They also created eco-friendly products and information boards on birds and animals in danger. The use of separate dustbins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste was also emphasised.
