MANGALORE, NOV. 23. The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has handed over 1,573 of the 2,270 works taken up under the Rajiv Gandhi Community-based Drinking Water Scheme to the respective gram panchayats for maintenance, the president of the panchayat, Somanath, has said. The panchayat has completed 1,675 works. Presiding over the scheme and total sanitation campaign committee meeting here, Mr. Somanath said of the remaining 499 works, 138 had been delayed as power connection had not been given. The remaining works were progressing satisfactorily. The Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, Subodh Yadav, directed the officials concerned to complete all the works under the scheme, barring those being taken up at Malavoor, Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya by December 31. The Moodbidri MLA, K. Abhayachandra Jain, chairmen of various standing committees and officials were present.
