Temperature

TIRUCHI, NOV. 23. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.1 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.2 degree Celsius.

Arrested

The police today arrested Muthusamy of C.R. Palayam near Siruganur in the district in connection with the alleged murder of Rangasamy, a 70-year-old relative of the accused, belonging to the same village. The murder is said to have taken place on Monday in an agricultural field at C.R. Palayam.

According to police sources, the alleged murder was the result of a quarrel between Rangasamy and Muthusamy over the ownership of a tree located on the bund separating their agricultural farms. The Siruganur police are investigating the case.

SRMU members stage demo

Members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) of Ponmalai Railway Workshop staged a demonstration in front of the workshop's armoury gate here today demanding that the Central Government constitute the Sixth Pay Commission Committee.

Railway sources here said 400 SRMU members, including 75 women, led by S. Veerasekaran, coordinator of the SRMU Ponmalai Workshop, took part in the demonstration that lasted for half-an-hour.

Kills daughter, commits suicide

A 24-year-old woman allegedly murdered her one-year-old daughter and committed suicide in her house here today. Police gave the name of the deceased as Kameefa Begum of Ariyamangalam. According to police sources, Ms. Begum, married for two years, set her child and herself on fire following a family quarrel. The All Women Police Station, Goldenrock, is investigating the case.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 103.02 feet today. The inflow was 5,089 cusecs and the discharge was 5,023 cusecs.
