LIC agents

stage dharna

KOCHI, NOV. 23. Agents of Life Insurance Corporation under the aegis of the All India Life Insurance Agents Federation today staged a dharna in front of the regional office of the LIC here. They were demanding withdrawal of the move to impose service tax on insurance premium. The dharna was inaugurated by K. Babu, MLA. The agents also opposed the move to hike foreign direct investment in the insurance sector.

Volunteers needed

Maithry, a non-governmental organisation working for suicide prevention, is seeking volunteers. Persons aged between 25 and 60 and hailing from Kochi need contact. They should be fluent in Malayalam. A meeting with those who are interested will be held at Vimalayalam, Kacherypadi on Saturday at 3 p.m. More details are available at Ph: 2396272.

Camp held

A women's camp organised by the Kerala Gazetted Officers Association (KGOA) at Mas Auditorium was inaugurated by the All India Democratic Women's Association State vice-president, K.Thulasi, on Tuesday.

Passport

The Regional Passport Office, Kochi, has processed and issued passports for applications received till September 13, 2004, for which police verifications have been completed. The processed passports have been despatched before November 19, 2004, according to the Regional Passport Officer.
