THIRUVANANTHAPRUAM, NOV. 23. Train services to and from the capital were affected for over four hours following a snag in the signal system around 1.45 p.m. today. The failure in the signal and points hit the train services and caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers. The signal failure took place after one of the signal cables near Over-bridge Junction got burnt when the locals set ablaze the garbage that has accumulated on the railway premises, sources said. The Railway authorities piloted the 2624 Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Super Fast Express manually following the signal failure. The train finally left for Chennai from the Central Station at 2.40 p.m., after a delay of 10 minutes. The trains that were affected on account of the signal failure were the Bangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Island Express, the Swarna Jayanthi Nizamuddin Express, New Delhi-Thiruvananthapruam Kerala Express, the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Special and the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam Passenger. The snag was rectified around 5.45 p.m. and the train services were restored by 6.30 p.m. There was only a delay of one hour to the train services due to the incident.
