BANGALORE, NOV. 23. Burglars broke into the house of a businessman in High Grounds police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday and took away gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs. The police said the burglars entered the house of Rajesh Bajaj on 3rd Cross, Chakravarthy Layout, near Mount Carmel College, by cutting open the window grills on the first floor. They took away the jewellery that was in cupboards on the ground and first floors of the house. The burglary is said to have occurred between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. While Bajaj, his wife and their two children were sleeping on the first floor, his parents were asleep on the ground floor, the police said. The High Grounds police have registered a case.
Found murdered
An unidentified man aged around 30 was found murdered at Koodlu village, off Hosur Road, in Hebbugodi police station limits on Tuesday. The police said the assailants had smashed the man's head with a boulder. The Hebbugodi police have registered a case.
Woman ends life
Kumari (35), mother of four, committed suicide by hanging herself with a sari at her hut in Lakshman Rau Nagar slum on Monday night. She was the wife of Anthony, a rag-picker, the police said. The Adugodi police have registered a case.
Cheating charge
The Peenya police on Sunday arrested a former employee of Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) who had allegedly cheated the public of lakhs of rupees by promising them BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) sites, bank loans and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) dealership. The police gave the name of the person as Krishna Murthy Shastry alias Shamsundar (52) of Kadirenahalli Main Road, 2nd Stage, Banashankari. Claiming that he had close contacts with Ministers and their secretaries, Shastry had allegedly taken Rs. 7 lakhs from Nagarathna of Vijayanagar, promising her a BDA site. He allegedly cheated many others in a similar manner, the police said.
Murder charge
The HAL police have arrested Venkataraju (30) on the charge of murdering Chandrappa (30), vice-President of the Mahadevapura City Municipal Council. The police said a four-member gang led by Venkataraju allegedly hacked Chandrappa to death near Marathalli on November 10 following a land dispute. Three others accused in the case Muddappa, Rangaswamy and Hanumantha were arrested on November 15.
Goods recovered
The Kengeri police have arrested two persons on charges of robbery and recovered from them gold ornaments and electronic gadgets worth Rs. 1.20 lakhs. The arrested Nagaraj alias Anand (22) of Hosakerehalli and Anjinappa alias Suresh (26) of Pramodnagar allegedly waylaid people in desolate areas, attacked them with lethal weapons and took away valuables, the police said.
