Support for cinema bandh

By Our Staff Correspondent

HASSAN, NOV. 24. Activists of the Akhila Karnataka Dr. Rajkumar Fans' Association will participate in the agitation organised in Bangalore by the Kannada film industry to save "Kannada, Kannadiga and Karnataka", Ballupet Gopal, general secretary of the district unit of the association, said.

He said that the district unit would fight against the injustice meted out to the Kannada language and Kannadigas in the State. On Sunday, the association would protest against a television network for converting a Kannada television channel into a pay channel. Accusing the police of harassing people, he alleged that the police were not allowing the association to conduct rallies. He criticised the police for arresting the president of the district unit, H.R. Nagaraj, and said that though Mr. Nagaraj had been acquitted in 17 cases, the police claimed that he (Mr. Nagaraj) was involved in 23 cases. The district administration was suppressing "pro-people" agitations, he alleged.
