National Integration Week inaugurated

By Our Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR, NOV. 24. The Deputy Commissioner, Rajender Kumar Kataria, has said that the strength of a nation lies in its youth.

Inaugurating the National Integration Week celebrations organised jointly by the district administration and the Department of Kannada and Culture here on Tuesday, Mr. Kataria called upon the younger generation to adopt the right attitude to strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.

Stressing the need for citizens to protect and develop language and culture, he said caste factors could be overcome if everyone developed the feeling of unity, and communal harmony could be achieved only if the feeling of oneness was inculcated.

Harmony

The chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat, M. Manjunath Naik, said that it was necessary to overcome all differences to achieve harmony.

The president of the zilla panchayat, K. Mohammad, presided over the function. He spoke about the efforts made by previous generations in protecting the integrity of the country.

Presiding over a meeting at the district office, Mr. Kataria promised to take steps to develop the Mahatma Gandhi Park. He said solar lamps would be installed and a request had been forwarded to the Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology for the installation of a windmill and telescope.

Jatha

The Deputy Commissioner inaugurated a jatha organised by the Regional Transport Office to educate the people about controlling pollution.

Schoolchildren took out a procession from the district playground carrying placards about the ill effects of pollution.

Inaugurating a science exhibition on Wednesday, Mr. Kataria observed that new scientific inventions would be meaningful if they were made available to the common man.

He commended the children for displaying models of usage of non-conventional sources of energy. He said such exhibitions should become a source of inspiration for all children to come up with new inventions.
