SHIMOGA, NOV. 24. B.S. Lalithappa of the Madras Regiment, who was wounded in Jammu and Kashmir while fighting militants on May 11, 2000, has been given a compensation of Rs. 50,000 by the State Government. The in charge Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Shimoga Zilla Panchayat, Shivakumar, gave away a cheque for the amount to Mr. Lalithappa at a function at the office of the District Soldiers' Welfare and Rehabilitation Department, which has jurisdiction over Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Davangere and Chitradurga. Mr. Lalithappa lost a leg in a landmine blast in Rajouri during "O.P. Rakshak." The Deputy Director of the District Soldiers' Welfare and Rehabilitation Department, H.K. Shanmukhappa, was present.
