POINTE-A-PITRE (Guadeloupe): Hundreds of tremors continued to rattle Dominica and Guadeloupe on Tuesday, two days after a strong earthquake killed a girl and damaged scores of buildings, officials said. In Dominica, a group of children in the northern town of Portsmouth ran frantically from a school building during a moderate aftershock on Tuesday morning, said Cecil Shillingford, the country's national disaster coordinator. Guadeloupe's seismological office reported more than 1,700 aftershocks mostly minor ones since Sunday's main 6.3 temblor. But there have been several major aftershocks. No new injuries have been reported from the aftershocks. On Monday, France released Euro 200,000 in emergency aid to Guadeloupe, a French overseas department. In Dominica, recent heavy rains compounded damage. Floods and landslides blocked several roads, isolating the mountain communities.
