By Our Staff Correspondent MYSORE, NOV. 24. A three-day national Symposium on Acoustics will be organised by the Acoustical Society of India, SJCE and JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing at the SJCE college auditorium here from Thursday. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Principal of SJCE, B.G. Sangameshwar, said 130 papers on acoustics would be presented by experts in the field drawn from different parts of the country at the symposium. He said acoustics or study of sound encompassed many important fields of human study and endeavour such as machinery noise control, ocean and underwater acoustics, pollution and environmental acoustics, musical and electro acoustics, medical, hearing and biological effects, speech processing and communication. Acoustics also had a bearing on the development of quieter machines. This would be discussed at the symposium, he said. The symposium, which is being sponsored by the Madras Regional India Chapter of Acoustical Society of America, the International Commission on Acoustics and the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysore, would be inaugurated by the former Scientific Advisor to the Union Ministry of Defence, Vasudev K. Aatre, he said. The Seer of the Suttur Math, Sri Shivarathri Desikendra Swamiji, would the function. The President of Acoustical Society of India, B.V.A. Rao, the Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technology University, K. Balaveera Reddy, and the Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University, J. Shashidhar Prasad, would be among the participants, he said.
