CHAMARAJANAGAR, NOV. 24. The Irrigation Consultative Committee meeting held at the Suvarnavathi Reservoir Travellers' Bungalow in the taluk on Tuesday ended abruptly after a clash between two groups of farmers. The meeting was called to discuss the release of water from the Chikkahole Reservoir into the Bandigere Nullah. The meeting had sought the opinion of farmers about the release of water, and those from Haradanahalli, Venkataiahana Chatra, Basavapura, and Ankashettipura villages had demanded that water be released to ease the drinking water shortage in their villages. Farmers from Siddaiahanapura, Dadadahalli and Kumbeshwara Colony villages opposed this and said that if water were released, there would be a shortage in summer. The two groups clashed outside the travellers' bungalow. Soon after the meeting broke up, M. Srinivas, president of the Command Area Development Authority, told the Santhemaralli MLA, Druvanarayan, that the date for the release of water would be announced soon. Mr. Srinivas said 1.2 tmcft of water would be enough to ease the drinking water shortage.
