Bangarappa says Govt. is not stable

By Our Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR, NOV. 24. The BJP leader and former Chief Minister, S. Bangarappa, said here today that the coalition Government headed by N. Dharam Singh was not stable.

Addressing presspersons, Mr. Bangarappa said the conflicting interests of the coalition partners — the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) — were the cause of instability.

To a question, Mr. Bangarappa said that there was no need to analyse the performance of the Government as it had hardly done any work.

Even after six months in office, Mr. Singh was not able to expand his Ministry. Mr. Singh himself had gone on record sometime ago that he was not satisfied with the performance of the Government, Mr. Bangarappa said.

The former Chief Minister said that he would not be surprised if the Congress decided to go in for a snap poll before the local body elections due in March.

The victory in the Bidar Lok Sabha byelection had emboldened the Congress, he said.

Mr. Bangarappa indirectly disapproved of the party's stand on the Kanchi Math seer, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi's arrest by saying that there was no provision in the law to provide for special treatment to heads of religious institutions.
