THE DREAM of a developed India lies in the hands of today's youth. They have bigger roles to play and more responsibilities to shoulder in the future. This was the message at the NSS Day celebrations of Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science (SNMV CAS) recently. In his speech titled `Role of NSS Volunteers in Nation Building', the chief guest, Reader, Government Arts College, S. Arangarajan, requested students to work in close contact with villages. He opined that education should become more value-based and cater to the needs of society. The students were also asked to emulate personalities like Rabindranath Tagore, Subramania Bharathi and Mahatma Gandhi. The principal of SNMV CAS, K.S. Radhakrishnan, termed NSS as `Non-Stopping Service'.
NSS PROGRAMME officers from various universities came together to participate in the 10-day orientation programme at Training and Orientation Centre, Avinashilingam Deemed University, recently. The co-ordinator of the programme outlined the responsibilities of every committee member. The first session of the programme dealt with the history and genesis of NSS and the second session was on documentation, NSS administrative structure, special camp theme and evaluation. Regular and special camping activities were also discussed. During the visit to Semmipalayam, a total sanitation village, the participants got an opportunity to see the biogas generation unit, biomass gasifier, anganwadi, windmill and primary health centre.
