Thanjavur
By Our Staff Reporter
THANJAVUR, NOV. 24 . A Sub-Inspector of the Railway Protection Force, Ilango (45), was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials here last night. According to CBI sources, Ilango threatened to take action against Muthukameswaran, a trader of old iron articles, alleging that he had stolen iron articles belonging to the Southern Railways and was selling them. Ilango demanded Rs.15,000 from the trader for not `filing a case'. As Muthukameswaran refused to pay the amount, Ilango continued to threaten him. The trader sought the help of the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Wing of the State police and was told to approach the CBI. Last night a trap was laid by the CBI and Ilango was caught red-handed when he accepted Rs. 10,000 from Muthukameswaran. As the CBI officials tried to arrest Ilango he attacked the CBI officers and tried to escape. But he was caught and taken to Madurai.
