NELLORE, NOV. 24. The 2nd Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate, Nellore, M.K. Vijayalakshmi, delivered judgements in two separate cases relating to dowry harassment, on Wednesday. In the first case, P. Vijayabhaskara Reddy was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. Reports say in August, 1998 he married Sridevi of Kovur whose mother, Vijayalakshmi, worked as an attender with APSEB, Kovur. A few months later, Vijayabhaskara Reddy started harassing Sridevi for more money and wanted a third of her mother's salary. Sridevi filed a petition against her husband in the women's police station, Nellore, in the year, 2001. After hearing the arguments, the Magistrate, sentenced Mr. Reddy to undergo simple imprisonment for 18 months. The second case related to Syed Khadir of Venktacahalasatram mandal. He married Syed Shamila of Minagallu village on June 19, 2000. Despite being given dowry, he allegedly started harassing her to get Rs. 50,000 for running a business. Thereafter, she lodged a complaint with the women's police station. The Magistrate sentenced the accused to undergo 18 months simple imprisonment.
