JAIPUR, NOV. 24. Peaceful polling was held in 44 civic bodies, including the corporations of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota in Rajasthan today. The State Election Commission sources put the polling percentage around 50. Minor skirmishes were reported from Jaipur, Kota and Sriganganagar. There were 6,961 candidates, including 1,320 from the Bharatiya Janata Party and 1,326 from the Congress in the fray in the current round of elections which involved an electorate of 51.43 lakhs and 1426 municipal wards. The Bhahujan Samaj Party has fielded 149 candidates, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), 63, the Communist Party of India (CPI), 20 and the Nationalist Congress Party, 69 in the polls. The civic elections in Rajasthan are carried out in two phases with another set of municipal bodies having a different tenure.
