Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, NOV. 24 . The air of suspense hanging over the Narain Dutt Tiwari Government in Uttaranchal has faded away with the Congress treasurer and leader in-charge of the State affairs, Motilal Vora, categorically denying any move to shift the Chief Minister. Mr Vora has advised all Ministers and other leaders from the State camping in Delhi for over a month now to immediately return to their constituencies and prepare for the coming party organisational elections. This is seen as a severe blow to Tiwari-baiters who were camping in Delhi to impress upon the party high command about the best alternative to the aging Chief Minister. In the race were the Uttaranchal Pradesh Congress Committee president, Harish Rawat, the Minister for PWD and Information, Indira Hirdeyesh, the State Planning Commission vice-chairman, Vijay Bahuguna, and the 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee vice-chairman, Satpal Maharaj. A large number of MLAs were quiet outspoken demanding that only an elected MLA and not habitual losers like Mr Bahuguna, Mr Maharaj or Mr Rawat should be forced upon them as the Chief Minister. A senior bureaucrat felt that the frequent rumours of Mr Tiwari being shifted and the lobbying by different groups within the Congress that followed adversely affected the working atmosphere and development pace in the State.
