Cuddalore
By Our Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE, NOV. 24. An auto-rickshaw driver, Arputham (34), attempted to set fire to himself in front of the Chidambaram Town Police Station, near here, today. The police arrested him. Mr. Arputham, the president of the auto-stand drivers' union at the Chidambaram bus stand, carried a petrol can and doused himself with the fuel in front of the police station. When he was about to light a matchstick, the police intervened. The auto driver said he had decided to set himself ablaze to register his protest against the constant harassment of auto-drivers by the police.
