Natarajan claims title

TIRUCHI, NOV. 24. M. Natarajan collected six points to claim the title in the open section at the district chess tournament conducted by the Dalmia Recreation Club at Dalmiapuram here recently. P. Preethi, T. H. Senthilkumaran and S. Ganeshbabu tallied 5.5 points apiece. In the tie-breaker, Preethi finished runner up, while Senthilkumaran and Ganeshbabu finished third and fourth.

In the boys under 15 years section, S. Edwin Nelson won the title with a points tally of 5. A. John Prince with 4.5 points finished second. S. Gopinath, R. Sivasubramani and T. R. Thulasi Ram also collected 4.5 points and they were placed third, fourth and fifth respectively.

K. Jennie Tresa with three points won the girls under 15 years title. R. Aparna with two points finished runner up.

The title in the boys under 12 years category was claimed by N. Ganapathy Venkataraman who managed 4.5 points. S. Hemanth Kumar too got 4.5, but in the tie-breaker he was placed second. K. Bharath Kumar with 4 points finished third.

M. Ashmitha with three points emerged victorious in the girls under 12 category. C. Jency got 2 points to finishe runner up.

The title in the boys under 10 years went to N. Rajkumar who got 4 points. M. Arunagirinath and K. Anandkumar too tallied the same points. However in the tie-breaker they were placed second and third respectively. The title in the girls under 10 went to N. Akilandeswari who managed 3.5 points. C. Shreedevi also with 3.5 finished second.

T. K. S. Arjun won the boys under 8 title with four points. S. Gokulnath, K. Joseph Anand and M. Vivekanthan also tallied four each and they got 2-4 places in that order. C. Reshma with 4 points won the girls under 8 title and L. Shalini finished runner up. — Our Special Correspondent
