ICF coach shells for Malaysia

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, NOV. 24. The first of eleven stainless steel coach shells, designed and manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory here, was exported to Malaysia yesterday. The documents were handed over by the ICF General Manager, Shivendra Kumar, to representatives of Hartasuma Malaysia.

The ICF bagged the Rs. 3.64-crore export order for supply of 11-metre gauge AC chair car shells to the Malaysian Railways. All coaches will be exported in this financial year, an official release said. Roof sheets, carlines, sidewalls, endwalls, body pillars and trough floors will be made of authentic stainless steel and underframes of corrosion-resistant steel. All other sub-assemblies are made of high tensile carbon steel. The headstock is designed to suit centre buffer couplers as specified by the Malaysian Railways.

Mr. Shivendra Kumar said the interior of the shells was designed to suit the furnishing requirements of the Malaysian Railways. The ICF had so far exported 425 coaches and 359 bogies to various Afro-Asian countries, earning a foreign exchange of Rs. 70 crores.
