Pulse polio: one more baby dies

NOV. 24.
One more baby which fell sick a day after the pulse polio vaccination died on Tuesday at Asupaka village of Aswaraopet mandal. According to reports reaching here, the two-month-old baby of a tribal couple, Somla and Padma, was rushed to a private hospital in Aswaraopet as it had severe abdominal distress. It died during treatment.
The baby had not been well for about a fortnight.The District Medical and Health Officer, Krishna Brahmam, said the death had nothing to do with pulse polio. The baby had lung disease.
The two-year-old brother of the baby was also given the pulse polio vaccine and he had no health complications. The parents tried out some medicines given by quacks, he said.
The Collector, Rajendra Narendra Nimje, said the children who died after the pulse polio vaccination would not be considered for any kind of ex-gratia or compensation. He said the deaths were natural.
