Cycling
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, NOV. 24. With only qualifying rounds being conducted, it was a comparatively quiet day at the BSA National track cycling championships at the SAAP velodrome here on Wednesday. Heats and qualifying races for various age groups were gone through and it was clear from the results that no state has yet been able to establish a clear dominance in any of the categories. While in the men's category Punjab Police continues to have an edge, it is expected that with three days of stiff competition yet remaining in the championship, other strong teams like Indian Railways, Services, Manipur and Rajasthan will pose a threat to the defending champion. With at least two of the top cyclists of Punjab Police having dropped out in recent times, the Police team does not look as invincible as it did when the meet was conducted here two years ago. It will be interesting to see how the tussle develops over the next three days.
Men: 4km individual pursuit: 1. Prabhjit Singh (Punjab Police), 2. Rajender Bishnoi (Raj), 3. Vittal Kundargi (Ser), 4. Sai Krishna (Rlys).
Boys under-18: 3km mass start: 1. Parmeshwar Hirekubar (Kar), 2. Vineesh (Ker), 3. Sweden (Andaman & Nicobar).
Women: 3km individual pursuit: 1. C.H. Rameshwori Devi (Man), 2. N. Choaba Devi (Man), 3. Premlata Srueban (Rlys).
Girls under-18: 2km mass start: 1. Gurpreet Kaur (Pun), 2. Neelama Malligaiwad (Kar), 3. Sariha (Ker).
