Attack on scribes reprehensible, says Chatterjee

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, NOV. 24. The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, today said that attack on mediapersons was reprehensible and should not be allowed to happen.

Such incidents should not happen in any State. It should not be allowed by the party in power, the Speaker said during a chat with mediapersons here.

Mr. Chatterjee 's remarks came when journalists drew his attention to the recent attacks on mediapersons by supporters of the Indian Union Muslim League at the Karipur airport. The Speaker, however, added that he did not know the details of the incidents at Karipur.

The Speaker said he had called a meeting of Editors of the print and electronic media in New Delhi on November 30 to seek the cooperation of the media in reporting the functioning of Parliament.
