Rajagopal admits mistake
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
NOV. 24.
The controversy over the letters written by the Congress MP from Vijayawada, L. Rajagopal, to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, over irrigation tenders was resolved today with the former admitting that it was a mistake on his part to release them to the media.
Mr. Rajagopal, who had sought a judicial probe against irrigation officials accusing them of misleading the Government in the tender process, decided to set the record straight by meeting the Chief Minister on Wednesday.
Asked by reporters after the meeting whether the dispute was settled, Dr. Reddy quizzed "How can you close a dispute when it is not even open". Mr. Rajagopal said he had no political or business motives in writing the letters. It was wrongly construed by some as anti-party activity, he said.
He said he had resigned as the chairman of the Lanco power project as soon as he was elected MP and hence there was no truth in reports that he was trying to twist the arm of the Government for securing favours. Mr. Rajagopal said he had explained his viewpoint to the PCC president, K. Keshava Rao, too and there was no misunderstanding between them.
