By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI,
NOV. 24.
Traders in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts today observed a bandh protesting against the arrest of T. Vellaian, president of the Tamilnadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peravai, and 12 other officer-bearers last night.
The general secretary, K. Mohan, alleged that the police sealed a shop owned by P.M. Nidhi at Ramavaram following a complaint that empty Indian-made foreign liquor bottles of a TASMAC unit in the area were missing and that the bottles were found in the shop. The bottles were seized.
When Mr. Vellaian along with other office-bearers broke open the seal, they were arrested and remanded to custody.
The peravai executive will to decide on the further course of action tomorrow.
In Thanjavur, members of Tamil Nadu Traders Association staged a demonstration in front of the Pangal building. Srinivasan, Thanjavur district secretary, led the agitation.
