Bhagavad Gita festival from January 1

KOLLAM, NOV. 24. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, will inaugurate the Bhagavad Gita Festival-2005 at the Cantonment Maidan here on January 1. The festival, being organised by the Upaniashad Vidya Bhavan, will conclude on January 11.

The District Panchayat president, Aisha Potti, will hoist the flag for the event on December 31.

The inaugural function will be presided over by the KPCC president, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, and the scientist from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, N. Goplakrishnan, will deliver the keynote address. The Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, the Kollam MP, P.Rajendran and the Rajya Sabha member, N.K. Premachandran, will participate.

Apart from rituals and discourses on the Gita, the event would comprise talks on "Science and the Bhagavad Gita''. The valedictory address on the concluding day will be delivered by the director of the Bharathiya Vichara Kendram, P. Parameshwaran, at a function to be presided over by the former KPCC president, C.V. Padmarajan.
