KOLLAM, NOV. 24. The Kerala Women's Commission will organise a function here on November 26 to observe the Anti-Dowry Day. The function will be inaugurated by the chairperson of the Commission, M. Kamalam, at a function to be presided over by the Kollam MP, P. Rajendran. The director of the Commission, V. Shantharam, will deliver the welcome address and the Kollam Mayor, Sabitha Beegum, will deliver the keynote address. Debates and seminars on the subject would be organised at educational institutions as part of campaign against dowry by the Commission. Apart from spreading the message against dowry through grama sabhas and `ayalkoottams', the Commission also intends creating `dowry-free zones'. The campaign would comprise spreading awareness on the powers of the Dowry Prevention Officer, mobilising public opinion against dowry through the media, spreading the message against dowry through religious, political, cultural and social leaders and encouraging women's organisations to take up campaigns against the dowry system.
