Visakhapatnam to host international event

VISAKHAPATNAM, NOV. 24. Visakhapatnam, which hosted the senior National championships and the weightlifting event of the National Games, is planning to host an international event during 2007.

This was revealed by the president of the District Weightlifting Association and organising secretary of the 27th men and 14th women Southern India championships, K. Suryanarayana, at a press conference here on Wednesday to give details of the championships to be held on Saturday and Sunday.

A number of international and national weightlifters would be seen in action in the meet here. From AP, P. Sailaja, K. Kalyani and N. Krishnaveni along with S. Kishore Kumar and G. Nagaraju, are the international weightlifters participating in the meet. The names of participants from other States were yet to be received.

The general secretary of the South India Weightlifting Association (SIWLA) and secretary of the APWLA, B. Venkataramiah, informed that a website of the SIWLA would be launched during the Southern India championships. — Our Special Correspondent
