AP in quarterfinals

HYDERABAD, NOV. 24 . Spurred by skipper K. Praveen Kumar's facile 6-0, 6-0 win over K.S. Shiva Rudrappa, host Andhra Pradesh advanced to the quarterfinals of the All India Civil Services tennis championships at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh complex here on Wednesday.

Earlier, the five-day meet was inaugurated by the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Mohan Kanda.

The results (pre-quarterfinals): AP bt Karnataka 2-0 (Anand Swaroop bt S. Shivanna 6-0, 6-0, K. Praveen Kumar bt K.S. Shiva Rudrappa 6-0, 6-0); MP bt West Bengal 2-1 (Promod Dixit bt Tapas Sengupta 6-0, 6-0, Rohit Rawat lost to Dilip Shiv Puri 4-6, 6-2, 2-6, Pramod Dixit/Mukund Yadav bt Dilip Shiv Puri/Tapas Sengupta 6-3, 6-0); RSB Kanpur bt Bihar 2-0 (D.C. Pandey bt A.K. Sinha 6-3, 6-3, R.K. Sonkar bt S.N. Sinha 6-0, 7-5); Rajasthan bt TN 2-0 (Jagdish Tanwar bt K. Anantha Krishnan 6-0, 6-0, Vaqar Ahmed bt Abbas Ali Baig 6-1, 6-1); Gujarat bt Daman & Diu 2-0 (Rajesh Thakkar bt Rohan Patel 6-4, 7-5, I.B. Patel bt Vishal Hansraj 6-2, 7-5).
