Sachin, Anjali to run for charity

MUMBAI, NOV. 24. Sachin Tendulkar and wife Anjali have confirmed entries for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2005. The duo will run the Dream Run for charity Apnalaya, said event promoter Procam International's Vivek Singh, as per information from Anjali's mother Annabelle Mehta. Cheques for Rs 10,000 each were given in both names alongwith forms to Give Online, the marathon's charity partner, while Annabelle said Sachin and Anjali had pledged to raise Rs. 90,000 individually towards charity.

Maharashtra Governor, Mohd Fazal, was among the city's prominent citizens to promise support towards the charity drive part of the event at a function on Thursday at Raj Bhavan. He contributed Rs. 7,000 personally, besides Rs. 11,000 from Governor's Fund. Give Online, having raised Rs. one crore plus in the inaugural Mumbai Marathon last year, is focussing on collecting five times that amount this time. Procam announced confirmed entries from leading corporate names like Anand Mahendra, Niranjan Hiranandani, Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani and Tina Ambani for the 2005 event.— Our Special Correspondent
