Abdul Azis likley to be new Cusat VC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. Nov. 24. Professor at the Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, University of Kerala, P.K. Abdul Azis, appears all set to become the next Vice-Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat).

His name was unanimously recommended to the Governor by the three-member committee set up to shortlist candidates for the post. The Principal Secretary, Higher Education, K. Mohandas, was the Government's representative on the committee. While K. Mohammed Ali, MLA, was the University's representative, the UGC was represented by Chakradas Sinha.

Dr. Azis has 26 years of teaching experience at the Kerala Agricultural University and at the University of Kerala. He has 77 publications to his credit and nine persons have done their doctoral research under his guidance.

Dr. Azis, who is the consultant ecologist for the ongoing `Theerapadhom' project in the capital, has also worked in the Saline Water Conversion Corporation in Saudi Arabia.
