GUNTUR, NOV. 24. The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Committee of Estimates 2004-05, headed by B. Vedavyas, will tour several places in Guntur district and Amaravathi on December 2. The 15-member team would check the progress on various Neeru-Meeru works and other tourism and developmental works taken up by the Panchayat Raj Department in the past three years in the district. The committee would review the estimates, budget and expenses on various works in the afternoon along with the District Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, and other departmental heads, the Collector said on Wednesday.
Sagar project inspected
The District Collector on Wednesday inspected the Nagarjuna Sagar Project Right canal in the Macherla mandal. Accompanied by the Irrigation Department officials, she checked the growth of weeds in the canal, the flow of water, the working of locks and enquired whether the water was reaching the ayacutdars. The Collector checked the Guntur channel and the canals in the last couple of days following complaints of water shortage from farmers and people's representatives in Prattipadu mandal.
Water release
The Irrigation Department released a schedule for release of irrigation water in the district under the Guntur channel beginning today. Depending on the need assessed by the Agriculture and Irrigation Departments, two-three days had been fixed for release of water into the connecting canals within specified distances.
