Around the City

Light showers

CHENNAI, NOV. 24. The sky will be partly cloudy on Thursday. A light passing shower can occur in some areas and the minimum temperature will be around 22 degrees Celsius.

On Wednesday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.7degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.0 degrees Celsius. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.4 degrees Celsius. The humidity levels stood at 75 per cent and 77 per cent respectively.

Health camp

A health awareness camp will be conducted on Thursday at the Office of the Superintendent, RMS `M' Division, Postal Accounts Office Complex, 4, Ethiraj Salai to mark the 150th year of India Posts. Families of postal staff can register their names at 10 a.m.

Blood donation

Madras Cosmopolitan Ladies Circle No.38 conducted a blood donation camp at Hotel Ambassador Pallava on Tuesday. The importance of blood donation was highlighted at the camp held jointly with Jeevan Blood Bank.

Humour club

Amrutha, a sixth standard student entertained people at a special humour programme conducted as part of Children Day's celebration organised by the Adambakkam Humour Club on Sunday.

Bank's donation

The chairman and managing director of Indian Overseas Bank, S.C. Gupta today handed over a cheque for Rs. 25 lakhs to the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) for expansion of research activities. President, MDRF, V. Mohan, who received the cheque, said the tissue culture lab of the foundation had been named after the bank.

Housing loans

The Mount Road branch of Canara Bank sanctioned 40 housing loans totaling Rs. 2 crores to teachers and employees of Chennai Corporation on Tuesday.
