MADURAI, NOV.24. A mini-exhibition will be held on the `History of photography and pre-press' on the sidelines of the Print - n - Pack 2004, a printing and packaging fair to be held under the aegis of the Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association and supported by ZDH / SEQUA Partnership programme with the approval of India Trade Promotion Organisation, here from November 26 to 30.

It will showcase the range of cameras that are utilised since 1900 till the present, especially the digital cameras, and their application in printing industry. Nearly 100 cameras will be on display to depict the history of photography at the Tamukkam Grounds.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the MADITSSIA president, S. Aravind, the vice- president, P. Seetharaman, and chairman of the organising committee, Rm. Lakshminarayanan, said the exhibition would trace the history and growth of photography and pre-press through photos, charts and cameras.

The organisers had already 80 entries for nearly 56 best print awards. The participants from various parts of India would display printing and packaging machines, consumables and spares such as mini-offset and offset machines and allied products, perfect binding machines, bar coding and batch coding machines, mini-conveyors sealer, label printing machines, rubber rollers, moulded rubber parts, ups, power systems, blades etc. at 75 stalls that would be put up at the exhibition site.

It was planned to conduct a seminar on `Trends in packaging industry" (Bar coding) on November 27 and a two-day seminar on `Innovation in plastic packaging' on November 28 and 29 at Fortune Pandiyan Hotel, respectively. A workshop on `Digital photography' would also be held on November 27. Workshop on usage of Internet in printing industry, conventional press versus modern press, and scientific press management would be conducted from November 27 to 29 at the MADITSSIA Hall.

The Collector, D. Raajendiran, would inaugurate the fair and the Madurai MP, P. Mohan, deliver a special address. The fair was being held for the fifth time since 1996 and has helped tremendously in bringing innovation in the field in the southern districts, the organisers said.

The fair would facilitate the networking of print producers and their customers, suppliers and service providers, they added.
