Attendance shortage shocks students

FOR SEVERAL students of degree colleges affiliated to the Bangalore University, the first semester examination came as a shocker. They were denied hall tickets as they had fallen short of 75 per cent attendance in the first semester. But professors were clear that the new rules regarding 75 per cent compulsory attendance in each subject at the end of every semester were announced in all classes right from the beginning of the academic year. The university had mandated the rule, they said. On its part, the university said the Supreme Court and the University Grants Commission had laid down the 75 per cent attendance rule.

The Common Entrance Test (CET) crisis kept several students away from classes. Now, they have ended up losing a semester instead of a whole year.
