KSEB drive to check power loss

KOCHI, NOV. 24. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is on a drive to improve the efficiency of power distribution system across the State. This is being done by minimising power loss and strengthening the existing lines.

The third phase of the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP) being implemented by the Board with Central aid will be extended to 26 towns across the State.

The Union Minister for Power, P.M. Sayeed, will inaugurate the town scheme of the APDRP at Thripunithura on Friday afternoon.

The scheme will be implemented at a cost of Rs.124 crores. In Thripunithura circle alone, Rs.4 crores will be spent to improve the system.

Renovation

Apart from renovating and standardising the existing lines, additional transformers and high-tension lines will be put up as part of the scheme. In Thripunithura, 60 km length of 11 kv line will be drawn and 30 new transformers set up to improve the power transmission system.

This will increase the length of the high-tension line in Thripunithura to 105 km. According to Damodaran Namboothiri, executive engineer of Thripunithura circle, the scheme will reduce the energy loss by five per cent, besides increasing revenue of the KSEB. Apart from Thripunithura, Perumbavoor, Angamaly, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Aluva, Kalamassery and North Paravur will be covered under the scheme in Ernakulam district. Other towns included in the scheme are Neyyattinkara, Nedumangad, Punalur, Kottayam, Thodupuzha, Chengannur, Chertala, Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Kodungallur, Thrissur, Kunnamkulam, Guruvayur, Chavakkad, Palakkad, Shoranur, Ottappalam and Payyannur.

The towns of Thiruvananthapuram, Kohikode, Kochi, Alapuzha, Kasargod, Pathanamthitta and Manjeri have been covered in the earlier phases of the project.
