THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 24 . On the basis of a complaint that excess fee was demanded for a merit seat, the Upa Lok Ayukta, V. Bhaskaran Nambiar, has directed the secretary of the John Enoch College of Pharmacy at Karamana to "reserve" one seat in the D.Pharm course for 2004 until further orders. The complainant, M. Vikraman Nair, a resident of Kalliyoor near here, said his daughter, P.V. Nisha, had been admitted to the Diploma in Pharmacy course on merit by the Directorate of Medical Education. Though she was advised to pay Rs. 4,440 at the time of admission, the college authorities had demanded Rs. 18,600. The court order said the college secretary should state how and under what circumstances the demand for a higher fee was made. The case has been posted for its next hearing on December 15.
