Task force on naxals to meet on Nov. 28

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, NOV. 24. The Task Force on naxalites appointed by the Central Government would apprise itself of how the last month's talks between the State Government and naxal leaders were conducted on November 28.

The task force will meet at the Secretariat here the Government representatives for talks, mediators, naxalite emissaries and officials, the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, told reporters here on Wednesday.

Answering a question, Mr. Reddy said arms would not be the main issue but one among many for the second round of talks with naxalite leaders.

He also said the Government was in favour of going ahead with the second round talks but it would be a futile attempt if the issues raised earlier were not examined.

Arms issue

He added that the issue of arms was still reserved for discussion. The Government would tell the naxalite leaders conclusively that they could not move in villages with arms. At the same time, the Government did not question their ideology on armed struggle.

The Minister maintained that the talks would continue even if they were delayed. The Government mulled over the idea when to hold the second round.
