HYDERABAD, NOV. 24. Never keep cash in side boxes of two-wheelers. Even if you keep money in scooter dickey, do not leave the vehicles even for a few seconds. While transacting business inside a bank, do not indulge in conversation with strangers. These were some of the suggestions given by the police to bank customers to check `diversion of attention' cases near bank premises. Taking into consideration the alarming rise in `diversion of attention' cases, bankers and the police have joined hands to educate customers about such offences. Educating customers on security precautions to be taken while carrying money from and to the banks and homes would help in prevention of thefts, the East Zone DCP, K. Rajendranath Reddy, said while addressing a meeting organised at State Bank of India office in Koti on Wednesday to evolve a strategy to check such offences. "Despite media reporting incidents of money kept in scooter dickey being stolen, people continue to keep cash in vehicle boxes. Customers must be alerted by banks on this point," he suggested. Whenever cashier goes out of the cabin even for a minute, he or she must lock it. Fingerprints and photos of account holders must be taken to prevent forgery and impersonation, he said. The SBI General Manager, Patnaik, and the Deputy General Manager, Vigilance, Rammurthy, spoke.
